Come wanton weary travelers, hang your coats and find a seat, i'm tuning up the voice for stories outta key We'll ponder over heartaches, warm our poetry with drink, play merrymen before the moment sinks Fall weak to sweet consumption, hear the melody gain strength, while melancholied eyes refuse to blink No tears, just tales of memories of the days when we were great, unburden wary backs of your today -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tonight we let it all go Numb the sadness and the sorrow Offer songs on bended knee And sing the stories outta key -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, i've drunk my share of madness, and i've tasted my defeats, sweet misery, she sure loves company If tomorrow finds me waking on the wrong side of the dirt, i thank you friends for letting me be heard To scars of murdered memories at the bottom of my glass, to the righteous man made victim to his past To the congregation gathered here, i offer you this toast, to hero, whore, sinner, saint, and ghost -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Come wanton weary travelers, hang your coats and find a seat, i'm tuning up the voice for stories outta key We'll ponder over heartaches, warm our poetry with drink, play merrymen before the moment sinks To scars of murdered memories at the bottom of my glass, to the righteous man made victim to his past To the congregation gathered here, i offer you this toast, to hero, whore, sinner, saint, and ghost

Well this old road has its costs Empty pockets, hurt, and loss Exit signs whisper my name That big old sun is gathering rain Bathed in light I felt alone And in this dark, I dreamt of home Wrote a letter, cried a song Dear sweet Jenny, I won’t be long... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stoke the fire and tend these wounds Before I dig our tomb And you’ll be the last girl that I ever love We’ll steal forever day by day, Together come what may And I’ll be the last boy that you ever love -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Where highway signs kiss this earth This dark horizon’s been my curse And while the boys keep chasing gold All the years have made me old On these feet I walked alone While in my head I dream of home Bathe me clean of all my sins Swear sweet Jenny, here it ends... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well this old road ain’t worth its cost Find a map ‘for I get lost Exit signs whisper your name While these eyes are gathering rain This desert star, it warms my soul Your loving arms have made me whole And all those dreams that I done left Can’t haunt a man with no regrets
3.
Well I left my home at 18 in the fall of ’95, Took highway 38 on down I-35 To the barrooms down on 6th st. where, I’d make my stand Strumming 3 chords on 6 strings in my hand -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well hey there Johnny, ain’t you heard about me I’m a prophet and a singer peddling wisdom for free So saddle up here sally, looks like, you need a friend... And a drink alone is never well spent -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sipped courage from a cup numbered 251, We’d gather at the Showdown to wait for the sun And raise a middle finger and a glass to things to come Well 3 cheers for 10 years being young -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well hey there Johnny, ain’t you heard about me I’ve been around the world playing for less than free So saddle up here Sally, witness sweet glory’s end Cause a drink alone is never well spent -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well when that sun set, I was pushing 35, The wounds of the price left me clinging to life But those 3 chords and that 6 string brought me, back home to you Where tired punk rock singers sing the blues -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well hey there Johnny, ain’t you heard about me I’m as lonely as a guitar with a few busted strings So saddle up here Sally, cause I need a friend And a drink alone is never well spent

Little Bird 03:35
You healed the scars, this road had left me And you taught me how to cry Filled my arms when they had emptied, And you taught me how to fly -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Said, little bird, don’t you worry... You can still fly on injured wings Little boy, ain’t no hurry We got everything we need Cause if that rain comes down, I’ll catch you boy If the storm weighs down your wings And the last five words you’ll hear me sing... Come fly away with me -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Time had come, I had a last flight That I had to make alone Two months felt like a lifetime But your words carried me home -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So little bird, don’t you worry... I can still fly on injured wings Little girl, ain’t no hurry We got everything we need Cause if the rain comes down, I’ll catch you girl If the storm weighs down your wings And the last five words you’ll hear me sing... Come fly away with me -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I told you boy, we got forever at our feet... We can dance the rain away, dear boy, just take a chance with me... And that feeling while you’re falling will forever lift you up... And I’ll love you real...til you say stop. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Baby bird, the worst is over So dry away those eyes I’ll carry you on tired shoulders And far away, we’ll fly -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So little bird don’t you worry... We can sure fly on mended wings Little bird, ain’t no hurry We got everything we need Cause when the sun comes out, I’ll watch you soar Let the wind carry your wings And those sweet last words will set us free Come fly away with me

What's the view like from that bottle... Is there room left at the inn? Well, i'll be moving on tomorrow Just need to hide from where i been ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well don't go chasing lonely You won't like what you find Ain't no ever after happy If you leave it all behind But it's the life that you choose, It's the choice that you lose, The win that leaves you... singin' the blues It's tears on the good days, smiles through the hard rain, and words you waste on songs who got away ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well top of the morning... Wake me when it's done Ain't no kiss waiting here for me Not quite ready for the sun ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Climbing out of this here bottle Little drunk, but here i stand Mourning's done, bring on tomorrow Hard nights help make the man ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well i went out chasing lonely Think you know just what i found Ain't no ever after happy When it all comes crashing down But it's the life that i chose, It's the highs, it's the lows In death we learn that... new love grows Plant seeds on the good days Pray for a hard rain No words to waste on songs who got away

Paper Planes 04:21
The youthful lives...that we now live down The folly in the heavy hearts of kids... Did raise kings And we stood those tides...wearing crowns Crusading youthful voices in our bid... At Everything -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And those match tips sparked emblazoned hearts Like wings on paper planes Hubristic dreams like gasoline Put Icarus to shame... But here we go...to the unknown... Sometimes dreams hurt more, when you wake -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You never know...what you’ll give up To taste freedom with every breath... You can take Found fools’ gold...and it was enough... Cause you can’t watch spirits bloom... Without rain -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And when it ends...and your day’s been lived Are you happily belligerent... and bored? Dear Journeymen...What would you give? To breathe that naïve innocence... Once more -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let match tips spark emblazoned hearts Like wings on paper planes Hubristic dreams like gasoline Led Icarus to fame... But here we go...to the unknown... Sometimes dreams hurt more, when you wake

Left a stack of heartbroke corpses in her wake... With a touch of bitter sweetness too, too hard to fake And ruby lips left stains upon these cheeks... Like a painted human canvas left to dry in the breeze And all them boys called me lucky... Well I guess I thought it too... So what’s a dumb luck, lovesick boy supposed to do? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marry me my love, we can swear it by the ocean. Bury me in sand ‘neath the warm and fabled sun Carry me dear girl, like a cross up to the altar, Then bury me once more, when our war with time is done -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sweet baby’s breath left lingerin’ in the smoke... From a Marlboro cigarette she kissed while talkin’ bout hope Ceramic faerie statues by her bed... I suppose to prove that mysteries and magic aren’t dead... And all them boys called me lucky... Well I guess she thought it too... So what’s a dumb luck, lovesick girl supposed to do? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Took a number for a witness to her yes... At a crowded county courthouse sealed with, a ruby kiss And Frisco’s served us coffee and a slice... Before we hurried to the airport for some tearful goodbyes... And all them boys called me lucky... And I know she thought it too... So what’s a dumb luck, lovesick us to do?

Had a friend, who once said, "I’ll sleep when I’m dead," then she died quietly brave. Known dreamers who've drugged, and slowly gave up on magic, in moments of shame. On the days you feel old, and your heart has gone cold, remember life's meant to be played. And the rows that you've hoed, are now paved with roads of suffering, failure, and pain... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well follow me home...when your sky is falling down I'll carry home...when your feet have given out We’ll build our own kingdom, constructed by sinners, be brave... Where 10,000 liars and lovers, do live without shame -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Knew a good man who sang, to his bride everyday, but 'paper hearts,' easily break. And a pretty young girl, I thought made the world, who was hooking to pay the bills late. I’ve known crooked lost souls, who gave up their goals, in barrooms one beer at a time But we all need a hand, when our hearts cannot stand, so brother, put your hand in mine. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Had a lot of good friends, who’ve met early ends, but most are still drawing breath. And the ones who have gone, remembered in song, resurrected back from the dead. Well the sorrow that grows, in your heart one day slows, and you learn to fly when you fall. But until that day comes, when it’s all said and done, I’ll offer this hand out to all.

Made an offer on a gypsy home Sipped a beer to quench the thirst But the highways where this boy did roam Left love at a loss for words Got a chance to play a losing game With the princess and the whore And the headstone of this gambler’s grave reads... “love don’t live here no more” -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- But them stones growing moss, just rolled away And that rock kept on rolling day by day And the debt of wandering minstrels must by now... Surely be paid...I pray So lift your spirits one and all Swallow hard before your pride rethaws Then burn that bridge to memory lane And let’s go dancing on their grave.... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Heard a song of youthful true romance, But I can’t recall the words Had a long awaited second chance But it ended like the first Found a box of weathered photographs Of the loves that I have worn And the faces of my checkered past All soulless, cracked, and torn -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (pre/chorus)
10.
Found a guitar and a sad song, that hadn’t been wrote yet About a pack of tired heroes, on an unwinnable quest But we’d dream into this microphone, til we all had nothing left Well son, this one you leave behind... Lost my soul in barroom battles soaked in beer and youth and sweat Searched for gold, and guts, and glory, but there wasn’t any left Just another burned out memory and another cigarette Well son, this one you leave behind... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hung my head right out the window, cause my ears were soaking wet Watched the corpses of my dreams, slowly wither in this head While the fighter begs for more when he ain’t got nothing left Well son, this one you leave behind... Put my heart out on a tightrope on a prayer without a net Like the soldier off to battle, doomed to join the widowed dead I joined the devil at his table, said I’d like to place a bet He said son, this one you leave behind... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So I’ll go... Back to the days when a chorus took me home To the old... Streets where we used to roam... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I’ll find a guitar and a new song, that hadn’t been wrote yet About a pack of tired heroes on an unwinnable quest But we’ll dream into this microphone, til we all have nothing left Cause son, this one I can’t leave behind... I’ll put my heart out on a tightrope on a prayer without a net Like the soldier off to battle, doomed to join the widowed dead Rejoined the devil at his table, said I’d like to place a bet He said son, this one you oughta leave behind.

So where do I start a story so long, of reflection and solace delivered with song Well I guess it was Baker who taught me to play, so perhaps dear Baker, it’s you that I blame... If you’d only just left me, by now I’d be lame, I’d be boring, but happily boring and blissfully plain God I swear some days I wish... Well I wish that sweet Natalie didn’t leave us so young, I cried when The Adicts played ‘Never Walk Alone,’ And I swore that I felt her smiling somewhere...flipping us all off throwing shit through the air But some of us lucky, we saw through her shit, the girl filled with gravel, with gruff, and with grit... Was somebody’s daughter, was somebody’s smile, was here for a moment, now gone for awhile... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And Oh, Oh, Oh...How I wish we all never walked alone... Oh, oh, oh...how I really wish we never had to make that walk alone... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well Dustin tracked records like alms for the poor, and we poor ass musicians did rap at his door And Born To Lose brothers would make some new friends on a less travelled road that one day would end To the all night road parties I’ll never forget, getting tattooed hung over, while poor Stevie slept Cause he partied so hard, that Johnboy drew dicks on his chest To Johnboy, and Larry, and Kevin, and Chris, to Ben, and to Benji, and Dustin, and Chris, To Ian, safe travels my friend, tell em all ‘hi’ from me And tell em, I wish that the years hadn’t weathered my heart, that the journey was perfectly, imperfect art And scars do remind me of all of the times that we’ve had --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tell them oh, oh, oh...well we all must one day walk alone Oh, oh, oh...well we all one day have to make the walk alone --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To sweethearts and lovers, you know who you are, I’m sorry and thank you for wishing on stars With a hopeless romantic who couldn’t get far on his own To the ones that I’ve hurt, I hope all is well, and karma served supper to me here in hell So sweet dreams ex lovers, for now it’s all come back to me And the last one I offer, I offer to you, sweet Jennifer Prior, what’s this boy to do The house is so empty, it echoes my cries to your ghost And the memories of you still hang from these walls cause I can’t take em down yet or else then it all, Will seem but a memory, and girl I’m just not done with you --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- But, oh, oh, oh...well we all must one day walk alone But oh, oh, oh...how I really wish we never had to make that walk alone
12.
Well I pushed away the anger, welcomed loneliness instead, And those tears just kept on coming, flowing more than they did ebb... And I cried a little harder...I’ve been beaten half to death And poetry made motion in the fingers of these hands, Each melody, a memory, every word a whispered stand... But deaf ears rarely notice...and they never understand -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So I’m trying to get home To the mirrored man I know Well, she’s just not fond of memory like she was just yesterday... And she don’t love me anyway -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So I wept with lonely echoes and drank with lively friends And distraction served salvation ‘til the beer was at its end... And drunken choirs of promise...might raise me from the dead And poetry made motion in the fingers of these hands, Each melody, a memory, every word a whispered stand... But deaf ears rarely notice...and they never understand -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well Natchet spit me wisdom, with a side of open hands, And an empathetic heart song that carried me to stand... Amidst the unsung wreckage...well, I’m rising from the dead And poetry made motion in the fingers of these hands, Each melody, a memory, every word a whispered stand... But deaf ears rarely notice...and they never understand
13.
Well an ending with no resolution ...left me broken from the start And acceptance of our disillusions ...still weighs heavy on this heart I don't wanna be alone tonight Let's dance in sweet dreams til the morning light When that smell of sweet vanilla floods this tired mind's eye, well... I'll leave the light on, say goodnight... Watched Austin run away in rearviews, ...she blew a quiet kiss goodbye And the engine hummed a hopeful new tune ...she beamed with home within her sights Well I know dear girl, you had your reasons ...and just one to keep you here And your fall stopped with the cooling seasons ...my voice fell cold between your tears
14.
Some fairytales don't last forever You love, you lose, you hurt, and die You and me hit nasty weather Played Hide and Seek, then nevermind ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well tell me baby Tell me princess Tell me lover... One more race... Cause the last one home is, a rotten egg While the first one sleeps alone No winners here, just, two left to beg That the sinless find no stones ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All you left was this here letter Hurts too much these days to cry None of your words can make it better When your feet betray the lie ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I wanna love, I wanna smile, I wanna fight, then reconcile... let it breathe, so love can live again So stay with me, and call me names, let it out, dole out the blame, Cleanse your soul so it can race again...
15.
Oh, to write out in verse, when the time’s they got worse And the bottoms of bottles filled my lonely eyes In the embrace of this cell, in the face of this hell Your light, it did shine down, and bid me to rise Of all of the angels...who look down on me, Who walk with me where I may roam And what could you possibly see...in a devil like me To make me feel safe and to make me a home Drink to fight off this curse, but the whiskey did worse And the devil inside filled my heart with pride Then aloft on light wings, with soft spoken things You showed me a love that once was denied Whether times were bad, the good times be had When life throws up walls to break through And as the angels go, the devils I know... I know I will always love you Well a whole once was torn, returned what was mourned Not one more tear did fall to salty the ground And my skies up above, bled blue from your love To your heart and mine, we’ll always be bound
16.
Born To Lose 03:37
Well Hausen broke strings, while learning to sing, on PA’s in trailers, fighting the sting, of low expectations...and sobered high hopes Kevin got me a job selling old books, and he’d push me on break to write the next hook, for a chorus that ended...a decade ago (And memories cut so deep) But always remind me... (That brothers we did keep) And my best is behind me... And Father Time would age And his favorites sons, would turn the page But songs with different names... Still Born To Lose Well Larry found us, drunk at a club, and he’d thankfully had, a little too much, cause he swore we played decent...to our girlfriends and him Then the band finally fit, when Sniffy just quit, left a hole in a record in need of a Ben, and strangers found purpose...and purpose made friends So to 5 aging friends, it starts like it ends, with the promise that family will never depend, on how long it’s been...or the last time we wrote And our rights and our wrongs, our fight to belong, are now lyrics in fables we retell with song, where we’re always the hero...and we never get old
17.
Packed the car for a free man’s run, with my favorite ball and chain Westbound highways, we’d chase that sun, and never be the same Stopped for lunch with some tweekers ‘long the way, for a burger and a shake Cranked the sounds on the speakers as we sang about happy ever after -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And that blackbird crowed down that yellow brick road...like an albatross atop a sinking ship And that rain did blow, our sails to the unknown...and drowning felt like living with each sip' Come on bad bird crow, send me on down the road...just don't throw me in that briar patch of sticks Cause everywhere you go, and all that sick sorrow, well i want it all, come on girl make me sick -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built a castle in that desert sand, with a California king She held this heart in her tiny hands, my once and future queen Wrote her fairytales from quiet living rooms, on dogday afternoons Songs of happy trails and violet painted moons, and happy ever afters -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Packed the car, she was homeward bound, with no more ball and chain Eastbound highways, she chased that sound, as free air kissed her face Drove all night through the tears that fell like rain, but she never lost her way Cranked the sounds on them speakers as she sang about happy ever afters -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And that blackbird crowed down that yellow brick road...like an albatross atop a sinking ship And that rain did blow, our sails to the unknown...and drowning felt like dying with each sip' Come on bad bird crow, send me on down the road...just don't throw me in that briar patch of sticks And everywhere you go, and all that sick sorrow, well i miss it all, come on girl make me sick
18.
If You Don't 04:16
Like the crooked withering trees... Our branches brought to bare And our few remaining leaves... Are dying to take the air ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you don't love me anymore, then... Tell me love, what's the point of keeping score If you don't live here anymore, Tell this open heart, perhaps it's time... To shut its door ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Love’s lingering remains... Are strangers now, once friends And the silence leaves me chained... Bound by our loose ends ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Well comb my hair up straight... And make me look my best And lead me to that grave... Where our love was laid to rest
19.
Open Hand 03:13
You’ve seen a lot, some good times, some not Well it’s hard to look around at all the things you got And you kind of wonder if it’s just your lot Or if you really chose the right way... Seems like all your fighting’s got you bruised and such And you’re staggering along your way without a crutch And you wonder if it won’t mean that much If you just walked away... Stand right here, I’ll lend you a hand You’ve fallen on hard times hanging by a strand I can remember when I made my own stand And opened up my hand... On the sharp edge of the knife, going through strife Ever since you thought you took control of life And you wonder if pain and hardship is your wife, You’ll part on your dyin’ day. In a broken land, all you see is sand, You’re wounded and broke from doing all you can And you take on the world with open eyes and open hands Just to watch it wash away... Well keep up the fight, it’s all within sight, And if that fire burns inside, you know it’s right And it won’t be long until you see some light To help you on your way... You’re not alone, look how you’ve grown That is one thing gotten from the seeds you’ve sown And this might just be a better place than what you’ve shown And no one can take it away.
20.
You swung for white picket fences, but you must’ve missed, Found a hello lover, with a goodbye kiss, and a last dance to a sad song all alone And the record asked its wreckage, ‘who’s lonely, now?’ I heard a pin drop sob, fate took a bow, but a lonesome road will one day lead you home.... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And when hard nights find you wandering And the cards just let you down And when the days, they find you crumbling Well you’ll lose yourself just to find your way back down... And those same sad songs bring you down...when you got nothing -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So you start from scratch with the help from friends, Cause the world stopped asking, ‘where you been,’ you follow teardrops just like breadcrumbs back to life And those same sad songs, stuck in your head, And those same high heels left you for dead, but they just don’t hurt the same way that they did... And the friends who stayed, when your world would end, Left impressions, kind, hard, and bent, and the truth is sadly rarely A true friend And those same sad songs lead you home... And those same sad songs bring you down... And those same sad songs give you hope...when you got nothing

Sweet Dreams 04:20
Well we settled in the quiet, Left two wounded hearts to dream... Of a love that she and I had yet to see. But her subtlety of urgency, Fell deaf and dumb on me... As we lingered a bit longer in the sweet. So sweet dreams, sweet lover... Be free to love another, I got tears enough to occupy the space... Between this chest and vacant arms, Lived the girl who stole my heart... Wake happy little angel on your way Those Arizona sunsets, Like nothing I had seen... Lent blue into those eyes she swore were green. And morning talks with coffee, Made for lovers’ poetry... While we lingered a bit longer in the sweet. And my first wish wasn’t for us to be friends But love’s last words must one day find their end And before the blue runs from those pretty greens... Well I got one last wish from you...from me Fare thee well, fair maiden, Every story has its end... And make believe is still, pretend. But I’ll reaffirm those vows, And wish her, a happy now... While I linger a bit longer in the sweet.

about

Nowherebound's ambitious second offering, "II", is a double album recorded mostly in the winter of 2012 at the infamous Slaughterhouse Studios in South Austin, Texas. True to the standards set by the debut album "The Songs of Broken Men", "II" weaves together heartfelt tunes with vulnerable lyrics, hauntingly sparse melodies with raucous anthemic sway; running the musical gambit with its tales of loss, love, brotherhood and life on the road. Split between two discs ("Highway Gospels" and "Three, Two, One").
