Down That Lonely Road Lay low, lonely road, Steal from me sorrow. Deliver me home. Pray these dear streets are all paved in gold, So I can stray far from this damn lonely road. When the stakes are high and morale is low, Headed down that lonely road. When your eyes are moist and your throat is dry, Headed down that lonely road. So you bottle regret and you drink it away. Bang out a set, your penance now paid, So rise to your feet and just take that first step, On down that lonely road… When your angel leaves, but the demons stay, Headed down that lonely road. With heart in hand on tired feet, Headed down that lonely road. So you sleep with the ghosts and you drink with the dead. Suffer in quiet the things left unsaid. So rise to your feet and just take that first step, On down that lonely road… When your spirit flees, but your will remains, Headed down that lonely road. When you dream of smiles but wake in tears, On down that lonely road. So you sleep with the ghosts and you drink ‘em away. Suffer in quiet, your penance now paid. So rise to your feet or just fall to your knees, On down that lonely road… Lay low, lonely road, Steal from me sorrow, Deliver me home. Pray these dear streets are all paved in gold, So I can stray far from this damn lonely road.

Nowherebound 03:31
Nowherebound Well I’m a gypsy man, Peddling his wares down the road. Well I don’t know where I been Or where I’m gonna go…I just know. Well I’m a highway man, Starin’ out at all those yellow lines. I got a thousand miles behind me, And a million more to go..‘til I’m home. And the train keeps losin steam Nowherebound with a pocketful of dreams Give tomorrow for a lifetime of today Sing my sins for those who pray… Well I’m a lonely man, Place I lay my head is tiled and cold. Well the pain helps pay the bills, But the booze it never fills…an empty soul. Well I’m a quiet man, Hidin’ from the world under these lights And if life’s lived on a stage, Then I’ve lived a million days…shy and bold Now the train is gainin’ speed. Troublebound with a van packed full of dreams Give tomorrow for a lifetime of todays Sing my sins for those who pray… We’ll leave our sins to those who pray… I sing my sins for those who pray

Restin’ in the pieces Well a broken man’s got stories, girl and I got a few… My happy ever after ended, ended with you When that whistle started blowin’, girl well, You moved along… Princess of railroad now you’re gone… So I’m restin’ in the pieces of your Sea colored eyes… You robbed me of my fairytale once, Upon a time… So I’ll beat on this here guitar, And I’ll bang out a song… Not feelin’ right, I’m feelin’ wronged. Between palace and poorhouse is a, Space in between, Where love can last a lifetime for those Of us who dream. On sunny days this broken boy well, He’ll pray for rain… To hide the tears and numb the shame… So I’m rustin’ in the pieces of an, An empty man… No restin’ for the wicked when his… Heart’s in her hands, So I’ll beat on this here guitar, And I’ll bang out a song… Not feelin’ right, I’m feelin’ wronged. So darlin’ if you’re listenin’, I just, Want you to know… That sweet kiss that we shared those Four stars ago… Meant more to me than this guitar or its, Its lonely song… Not feelin’ right, I’m feelin’ wronged. If the road on which you travel ever Leads you back home… These arms will rise to meet you girl, don’t Go it alone. Sing happy ever after as we count up the stars… Rest in the pieces of our hearts… Let’s rest in pieces of our hearts... We’ll rest in pieces of our hearts...

The Cursed 03:32
The Cursed Just finished off my last cigarette Still got a long, long way to go And the burden of all my regrets Left on stage at last night’s show Try to put out the fire that’s been burnin’ in my head Another consequence suffered for drinkin’ with the dead The hangover and hunger, they remind me of my sins But I damn well know tomorrow, I’ll be doin’ it again… We’re all scarred, but not broken Raise our fists up to the sky and let our souls sing out For the cursed, and the hopeless Tonight belongs to us until they shut us down again Swervin’ down the road less traveled I might look lost but I got friends And all my heartstrings unravel as the noose tightens again… livin’ life through tinted windows and I’m thinkin’ bout my friends while my family turn to strangers on the road that never ends so fill my empty cup from the fountain of youth yell out another song while the strings sing outta tune…

California 04:45
California She shone like sun on the ocean blue, She danced like light upon the waves Dreamed a life under neon lights Drove through the night in pourin’ rain… Singin’, hey California, I gotta warn ya… Take your best shot cause I’m firin’ right back Yeah I’m out chasin’ daydreams and, tastin’ moonbeams… Yeah, smilin’ big ridin’ the downtown city train… Singin’ tra la la la She’s singin’ tra la la la Let the chips fall where they may, Gonna smile all fuckin’ day… Singin’ tra la la la…And then she’s gone… She pranced her way into Hollywood She gazed at stars draped in sweet moonlight Dreamed awake and sang her self to sleep Basked in spoils of chasin’ good life… Singin’, hey California, I am upon ya… I’ll take your best, then I’m must be travelin’ on Cause I’m out, chasin’ daydreams and, tastin’ moonbeams… Yeah, smilin’ big watchin’ the world beneath my feet.. Singin’ tra la la la She’s singin’ tra la la la Let the chips fall where they may, Gonna smile all fuckin’ day… Singin’ tra la la la…And then she’s gone… She said her goodbyes to Hollywood Rolled outta town before the sun went down Drove the night to find this blue eyed boy Shedding tears knowing she’s homeward bound… Hey California, It’s good to see ya… Take my hand, we’ll start this whole thing up again, We’ll go, chasin’ daydreams and, tastin’ moonbeams… Hand in hand well watch the world just pass us by… Singin’ tra la la la We’re singin’ tra la la la Let the chips fall where they may We’re gonna smile all fuckin’ day…Singin’ tra la la la…

I’m Feelin’ Fine Rebellions wage on, on this borrowed guitar And every simple line leaves another ugly scar My tears are rainin’ down on the strings of my regret The chords are singin’ out another memory to forget So keep your heaven cause I’d rather dance in hell Amongst the thieves and whores and sinners Who I know so very well These songs of my salvation seem to free me from the cage And that prison we’d been livin’ before we could take the stage The dollar in my pocket means I’m playin’ for my life And every single demon’s singin’ in the choir tonight So fill my cup with angels tears and sacrificial wine …and I’m feelin’ fine Blow out my voice to the few that sing along but the whispers in the back echo louder than the song I’m tired and bored and dirty but my soul is smilin’ still Cause I met a friendly stranger who’ll be pickin’ up the bill The battle’s almost over and I didn’t get too far And that man in the mirror is covered in these scars I’m bitter old and dirty and my soul is wearin’ thin Well I danced with the devil, but I’m pickin’ with a grin…

Let It Rain 04:02
Let it Rain Watch the bum still beg the streets While the working poor try to make ends meet Watch their hearts turn into stone Cause they’re living off of bread alone Let it rain down Watch the sky go dark as our hopes burn out Let it rain down As our eyes well up like the soulless clouds of rain… The single mom is begging for shifts Paying last month’s price for her ailing kid Two hundred down on a sore throat caused By a cancer that haunts us all Widowed teens at soldiers’ graves Grieving for the human race Watch their world just burn away From the embers of the war we made The poor the hungry the angry and scarred Do battle in the prison yard The dead and buried the widowed and sick Watch American dreams turn to shit As the earth slowly crumbles back to the sea Let our martyrs die in poverty Let the wars wage on and our poets weep Let it all end in life’s tragedy Let it rain…

Bad Day 04:12
Bad Day Took my shot at the better days That pretty girl wasn’t meant to stay I held her hand as she, she walked away It don’t get easy like they say.. If a picture’s worth a thousand words There’s none of me and her That girl had nothin’ left to say So sing and shout and cry it out I’ll hit the bar I’m goin’ out With a bang… Well it’s a long way down Hit rock bottom, never made a sound My heart just strolled away It’s been a bad, bad day Raise a glass to our better days One for the one who got away Find the courage to bear my sins These are the songs of broken men… Tip my hat to our better days Life seemed to smile upon us strays Stolen smiles always have their ends This one belongs to you dear friend.

Family Bottle Family gave me this bottle…and its lessons that I’ve ignored And the hard days, they’re tough to swallow, but this whiskey… Won’t be ignored… And every day feels like the last one And every night I find myself cryin’ to sleep On the same old dirty tear soaked lonely pillow This old boy…got feelin’ weak So on my knees, I did pray, I did shout on up to heaven for some, sunnier days Looked for god, not a thing, found instead this hymn to sing Hallelujah family bottle, set me free… Mama gave me this guitar…and its six strings that I’ve ignored On the good days no words are coming, but some sad songs… Can’t be ignored… Cause every day feels like the last one And every night I find myself cryin’ to sleep On that same old dirty tear soaked lonely pillow This old boy…got feelin’ weak So on my knees, I did pray, I did shout on up to heaven for some, sunnier days. Looked for god, not a thing, found instead this hymn to sing Hallellujah family guitar, set me free… Daddy gave me this spirit…and it’s true heart that I’ve ignored Cause our todays, are what we make em, and sweet father time… Won’t be ignored… And every day leaves like the last one And every night I find myself tryin’ to dream On that same old dirty tear soaked lonely pillow This old boy…got feelin’ weak So on two feet, I will stand, With a finger up to heaven, this boy will be a man Look to me, for the voice, sing the words without a choice Hallelujah, dear family, now I‘m free…

about

This album was recorded during the winter of 2010/2011 in Natchet Taylor's living room, downtown, on the east side of Austin, Texas. Fueled by countless rounds of Lone Star Beer, bottomless pots of coffee, "The Songs of Broken Men" was produced during one of the harshest winters in Austin history. Punk, yet with country sensibilities and a definite acoustic vulnerability, this album is full-hearted and passionate with everything left out on the sleeve.
